The East Tibetan plateau is a vast, mysterious and beautiful land. A lot of snow peaks, grasslands, Tibetan villages and monasteries are well reserved, traditionally known as Kham Tibet region.

Traditional Kham Tibet feature ranges of snow mountains, virgin forests, verdant grasslands, and ancient tribes of Tibetan warriors. On this trip, visit remote monasteries and fields of blooming flowers along the shores of turquoise lakes. Travel to a distant Khampa town where an enormous pile of stone carvings featuring Buddhist prayers draws pilgrims from all over the plateau. Barter with nomads in the local market, watch traditional scripture printing at the parkhang, and taste traditional food in the fortress-like homes of the Gyarong tribe.

Health Request:

Due to the high Tibet plateau around 3000 meters to 5000 meters mostly, and we will pass by some mountain pass around 5050 meters, so strong health condition is required. If your health is not so good, you should check with a doctor before taking the decision of coming to Tibet.

Day 1: Chengdu Hotel—Dartsedo (Kangding) 365km / 6-7HRS.

Our Tibetan guide and driver will meet your group at Chengdu hotel in the early morning, begin your Kham Tibetan Plateau journey, heading to Dartsedo, today commonly known as Kangding in Chinese; it is one of the main gates between Tibetans and Chinese, Dartsedo is also the center for the tea trade between Tibet and China. Tibetan traders carry herbal medicines from the high Tibetan Plateau to sell in exchange for tea grown in China. We’ll spend the night in Dartsedo.

Day 2: Dratsedo—Lhagang(Tagong) 110km / 2 HRS

Lhagang (Tagong in Chinese) is a small town in the Tibetan prefecture of Garze. Its altitude is at 3700m. which is a very traditional Tibetan village surrounded by grassy rolling hills and you will discover excellent short hillside hikes here. Here the hills and valley are filled with romantic legend and gods. Lhagang Monastery is one of most important pilgrimage sites in Tibet and is surrounded by a perimeter wall of prayer wheels with over 100 stupas of various sizes. It is known for scenic grasslands and local Tibetan Buddhist culture. Option is half day horse riding from the Lhagang town to Gyargo Nunnery. Usually takes 3 or 4 hours horse riding to the nunnery. Stay overnight in the Nunnery.

Day 3: Lhagang - Drakgo - Garze 270 / 5 HRS

In the early morning, drive to Garze county via spectacular views of the mountain passes and provides great view of mountains peak and rivers, forests and grasslands. Yaks and sheep can be seen along the way. Garze is a small trading town where Tibetan people from surrounding areas such as Dege, Nyarong, Pelyul and Amdo come to buy goods. Visit Garze Monastery, which was originally built in 1642. It’s also worth to take the walk into the Tibetan street. Stay overnight at Ganzi .

Day 4: Ganze--Yarchen Gar Monastery 140 km / 2-3 HRS

We will drive to Yarchen Gar, Yarchen Monastery is in the Tibetan Region of Kham. It is reported to have 10 000 monks and nuns, making it possibly the second largest monastery in the world. Labrang Gar is even larger, but is considered a monastic encampment rather than a monastery. Most of the inhabitants are nuns. Many monks and nuns came to Yarchen Gar when Labrang Gar was partly demolished in 2001. Meet the monks and nuns from in the monastery. Stay overnight in Yarchen Gar.

Day 5: Yachen Gar--Palyu--Derge 240km / 4 HRS

We will drive to Derge via Palyu, pay a visit to Palyu monasteryon the way to Derge, which is one of the largest Nyinmapa monastery in  once in Derge, we’ll visit Derge Gonchen Monastery and Derge Parkhang Pringting Monastery, which is a Tibetan ancient cultural center. In it there are more than 320.000 printing plates. It has the most comprehensive collection of printed scriptures Tibetan Buddhism. Spend the night in Derge.

Day 6: Dege----Tro-la(4875m)--Yilhun Lake--Garze County 245km / 6 HRS

Today we’ll cross one of the highest passes along this route called Tro-La (4875m). Afterwards, we’ll pay a visit to the sacred glacial lake of Yilhun Lhatso (4110m); 13 Km West from town Near the road that goes to Garze county. A clear and glacial Lake.afterwards, continue drive to Garze for the night. Stay overnight at Garze.

Day 7: Garze--Danba-Zhonglu Village 357km / 6-7 HRS

We will drive to Danba county. Famous for it’s stone houses and traditional Tibet watchtowers. Once in Danba, people visit the watchtowers that are scattered about the county. With unique architectural features, the watchtowers in Danba are more outstanding than the ones in other areas of Tibet, The watchtowers in Danba vary in height from 16 to 35 meters. They stand in knots on hillsides or alone on the tops of undulating hills. It’s worth to hike in the Zhonglu Village. Stay overnight at Zhonglu Village.

Day 8: Day 6: Zhonglu Village hike to Suopo Watchtowers

Today you set out for a relaxing hike on the surrounding slopes that offering beautiful views of the valley below with its terraced farms that the Tibetans have been cultivating for hundreds of years. Again you may make this a light or challenging hike depending on your preference on this day. This area is also well known for many ancient towers that sit in ruins dating back to hundreds of years during the warring period between Tibetan clans. A section of one 700 year old tower is used as part of the home where you are staying!

Day 9: Danba Zhonglu Village--Four Maiden’s Mountains--Chengdu 370km / 7 HRS

In the early morning, we drive back to Chengdu via Four Maiden’s Mountains, One of the panoramic views of breath-taking in the western of Chengdu. If the time permit it’s worth to explore Four Maiden’s Mountains Valleys. Usually need at least 1 or 2 days to enjoy the beauty of Four Maiden’s Mountains. We will continue drive to Chengdu. Once arrived your hotel in Chengdu, say a goodbye to your Tibetan guide and driver. End your pleasant journey in Chengdu.
