The trip starts in Xining and to goes remote monasteries in Amdo region to some alpine lakes around at Mt.Nyenpo Yurtse and Mt. Amnye Machen, Mt. Amnye Machen is the most sacred mountain and a place of pilgrimage. Amdo Tibetans believe it to be home to the protector deity Machen Pomra. This tour offers great wild mountain scenery and make adventurous trekking with its fantastic landscapes. Drakar Dredzon Monastery is a gretreat hermitage and mystic meditation caves around the monastery. Drive back to Xining via world’s largest salt lake, Qinghai Lake.

Day 1: Xining to Rebkong (Tongren) – The Cradle of Art

Detailed Itinerary: Depart Xining after breakfast for a scenic 3-hour drive. En route, ascend to Shachung Monastery (Shachong Si), perched dramatically on a hill overlooking a bend of the Yellow River. This important Gelugpa monastery, one of Amdo's four great temples, offers panoramic views and a serene atmosphere. Explore its assembly halls and chapels. Afterwards, descend and drive along the fertile Yellow River Valley, its red sandstone cliffs contrasting with green fields. Arrive in Rebkong (Tongren) by late afternoon. This town is globally renowned as the epicenter of Tibetan Buddhist art, particularly Thangka painting. Check into your guesthouse. Take an evening stroll through the old town to sense its artistic spirit.

Day 2: Rebkong – Immersion in Artistic Heritage

Detailed Itinerary: After breakfast, visit the artist villages of Wutunxia (Lower Village) and Wutunshang (Upper Village), home to generations of master painters and sculptors. You can visit artists' studios to watch them meticulously create Thangkas using traditional mineral pigments and gold gilding. Purchasing art here directly supports the artisans.
