Old Ting to Everest Base Camp Trek

We will take the most difficult, yet rewarding route to reach Mt. Everest Base Camp via Rongbuk Monastery, the world’s highest monastery. Views of Everest can be seen clearly from the Rongbuk Monastery. Our route will follow a high plateau through Zambuk Valley via traditional villages with dramatic views of the Himalayan range along the entire trail. Our journey will start and end with some wonderful sightseeing in the capital city of Lhasa. This wondrous city is generally known as the heart of Tibetan culture and is rich with Tibetan culture religions sites. You’ll see the grand Potala Palace with its beauty of ancient architecture, the Holy Jokhang Temple and Drepung Monastery, home to over 10.000 monks and Sera Monastery’s debating, then drive to stunning turquoise Yamdrok Lake to Gyantse and visit Tashilunpo Monastery. Drive over rocky mountains to start our adventurous and amazing trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp from Old Tingri, which is a very old Tibetan village located in the Himalayan ranges.

Duration: 12 days and 11 nights.
Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa (3650m).
Settle in to your hotel to relax and adjust to high altitude.
Day 2: Lhasa (Visit Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple).
In the morning, we’ll visit the Potala Palace, the greatest wonder of Tibetan architecture. The Potala built was in the mid-7th century by the famous Tibet King, Songtsen Gampo, it is 130m and 13 stories high, and commands a view of all Lhasa. The Potala has been residence to the Dalai Lama Lineage for hundreds of years. After lunch, we’ll also visit the Jokhang Temple, also known in Tibet as the Tsuglhakhang; it is the most important temple in Tibet. Every year thousands of pilgrims come to Lhasa from every corner of the Tibetan plateau to visit Jokhang Temple. This temple was built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo, and is more than 1300years old. From the roof of the Temple, there is a wonderful view of Potala Palace and the bustling Barkhor.
Day 3: Lhasa (Visit Drepung monastery & Sera monastery).
After breakfast, you’ll meet your guide in the hotel and he or she’ll lead you to visit one of the three most famous monasteries in Tibet. Drepung monastery, literally translated as “rice heap”, and was founded in 1416 by a disciple of Tsongkhapa called Jamyang Choje, Once it was home to as many as 10.000 monks. Ganden Palace was established by the second Dalai Lama, the Palace was home to the Dalai Lamas until the fifth Dalai Lama built the Potala. Afterward, we’ll visit Sera monastery, where you can watch monks debate Tibetan Buddhist philosophy in the debating courtyard.
Day 4: Lhasa—Yamdrok Lake—Gyantse-Shigatse 3836m / 365kms / 7 HRS.
In the morning, we’ll drive to Gyantse, along the way we will cross the Kamba-la (4700m), where we will stop for some dramatic views of Yamdrok Lake. From the top of the Kamba-la, you have a fabulous view of the holy turquoise-colored lake with Mt.Nojin Kangtsang(7190M) in the far distance. Afterward, at Nangartse we’ll stop for lunch, and then continue to drive to Gyantse; along the way crossing the 4967m Karo-la, with its awesome views of the Nojin-Kangtsang Glacier. In Gyantse, we’ll visit Pelkor Monastery and Gyantse Kumbum. The town was a major centre for the trade of wood and wool between India and Tibet, Gyantse are carpets considered the best in Tibet. Afterward, we’ll drive to the Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet.
Day 5: Shigaste—Old Tingri 4350m / 320kms / 6 HRS.
In the morning, we’ll visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse; this monastery is one of the six great Gulugpa institutions. There we’ll see the world’s largest gilded statue of Jampa(Maitreya) the Future Buddha, a 26m high. Then we’ll drive to Old Tingri via Shergar, crossing over the Gyatso-La pass 5252m). Once arrived there, you can prepare for the amazing trekking to Mt. Everest. We’ll spend the night in Old Tingri.
Day 6: Old Tingri—Lungchang 4350m /12kms / 6 HRS / Hiking.
Our trekking adventure begins today as we make our way through the Old Tingri. During the day we can visit a small gompa in Cholun. Tonight will be spent in a comfortable campsite in Lungchang. This wilderness region is only home to herders. We will camp overnight.
Day 7: Lungchang—Drokpa 4860m /13kms / 7 HRS / Hiking.
The challenging trekking really starts today as we ascend into the mountains. Much uphill walking is done as we climb towards the top of Lamna La. Camp will be made right near the top of this pass. Where we’ll camp overnight.
Day 8: Drokpa—Draka Chu 4860m / 12kms / 6 HRS / Hiking.
We’ll cross over Lamna La pass which is over 5000m above the sea level and continue to to Draka Chu, en route there are truly amazing views as the sun sets in the remote small villages. We’ll camp overnight.
Day 9: Draka chu—Everest Base Camp 5250m /15kms / 7 HRS / Hiking.
We’ll hike up the Draka Chu River to Rongbuk monastery, which is the highest monastery in the world, standing 8.848meters above sea level views of Mt. Everst will be seen on this last trekking day. We’ll camp overnight.
Day 10: EBC—Lhatse 200kms / 6 HRS.
As we leave the wondrous views of Everest behind we’ll drive a short distance to Lhatse. Along the way we’ll cross the Pang La pass, with more views of the Himalayas. We’ll drive along the Friendship Highway as we cross the highest pass of our journey, Gyatmso La, and head towards Lhatse. We’ll spend the night in Lhatse.
Day 11: Lhatse—Shigatse -- Lhasa 420kms / 7 HRS.
Today we’ll drive back to Lhasa along the Yurlung River, the mother river of Tibet, passing through more beautiful Tibetan valley of Yurlung and crossing along the quiet and traditional villages along the river. Once in Lhasa take your chance to explore Lhasa. We’ll stay the night in Lhasa. Day 12: Depart from Lhasa Leave for your next destination by air or train.
